Are bad customer experiences like these:

Minimal Effort

Everyone uses their computer differently, and for different things. Working for a big name, one stop shop like Geek Squad we were expected to “fix” every PC the same way, using default settings. Worse, we were not supposed to fix any issues that the customer didn’t mention. For example, if you have bloatware slowing down your laptop, and don’t specifically ask to remove it, they won’t. They won’t even mention it.

While in their employ, I often knew with certainty that I could save a customer SO much time or frustration by changing a setting here, or adding a plugin there, but we weren’t allowed to make (or even recommend) these changes. They’d watch to make sure! These companies are the best known brands in the computer world NOT because they provide value to their customers, but because they spend their money on marketing – but a toll free number, unlimited plan and a recognizable name doesn’t mean they are reliable or do a good job.

The good news is, our technicians are trained and encouraged to work diligently to make personalized suggestions designed to increase your productivity, or fix common aggravations.

I personally feel great when I can save my customers time, or make their day to day less frustrating. It’s one of the biggest reasons I get so much satisfaction from what I do.

Unqualified Techs

Most retail computer repair shops don’t pay very well, which is one of the reasons I started this company. I loved what I was doing, but couldn’t survive on the paychecks.

This income deficiency makes it difficult for them to hire/keep qualified technicians, so instead they hire college kids with absolutely no computer repair experience. As the senior IT professional, I was frequently the one who trained these new hires.

Some got really good, and quickly moved on to better paying IT jobs. Others never really took to it, and many a rookie mistake happened with customer’s computers (because there was no one there to watch and supervise these new guys – it wasn’t THEIR fault). This usually resulted in “boomerangs” (computers that were “repaired” being brought back with the same problem).

Other times, the results were really horrible (accidently deleted files: pictures, corrupted Excel sheets, records lost from QuickBooks, physical damage to a laptop, etc.). I felt so bad when that happened… what a truly miserable, and avoidable experience for those poor customers.

Retail repair shops tend to have high prices for repairs. Say you have a laptop, and your hard drive needs to be replaced.

We don’t have a retail location. This eliminates many costly expenses which our computer store competitors must account for in their pricing (like rent, utilities, cleaning services, maintenance, city permits, décor, etc.).

This allows us to offer much more affordable computer repair prices. For example, here is the bill we recently sent our customer for the same services:

New Hard Drive: $55.99
2 Hours Labor: $250
Technician Notes: Ran diagnostics, installed drive, installed/updated Windows 10, migrated data.

Total: $305.99

Compared to the average $424.99, we’re nearly 30% less expensive. In addition to saving about $120, the repair was done in their own house, and in two hours. Had they brought their computer to a local computer repair shop, it would likely have been a 3-5 day check-in.

Pushy Salespeople

The biggest reason I decided to open my own shop was my moral objection to selling overpriced, unnecessary parts and software.

Every company I’ve worked with tacks on a 200% (or higher!!!) markup for computers, parts & software. We were required to sell “something” (it didn’t matter what) to every customer we worked with. Remote Computer Support Prices:

Standard Hourly Remote Support: $75 per hour
(1 hour minimum, billed in quarter-hour increments of $18.75 after the first hour)

Yes! Our No Fix, No Fee Warranty:

Our service warranty extends 30 days from the original service date. We’ll provide a FULL REFUND for all services if we are unable to resolve your problem to your satisfaction.

If your computer experiences the same symptoms as it did before it was fixed, we’ll repair the problem (through remote service) at no further cost to you. If we are still unable to provide a satisfactory solution, we will return your money (less any parts purchased).

If new parts or software are required to complete your warranty repair, you’ll be billed only for these parts or software, not for any labor it required to be fixed. If we’ve fixed your machine, we want you to be extremely pleased with the performance.

*Disclaimer: Follow-up services provided under warranty will be performed via remote service when applicable. Geeks On Command! is not responsible for malware re-infection. If viruses or other malicious software were removed from your computer, and it was subsequently infected again at any point after this service, it will be considered a new issue. Other unqualifying issues include: liquid damage, power damage, misuse, or any other damage, hardware or software failures that occurred subsequent to any repair. Additionally, we are not responsible to warranty repair any issues that were not brought to the attention of the technician during the original repair. We are also not responsible for any issues caused by unlicensed, pirated or otherwise illegal software. Our warranty does not extend to connectivity issues with peripheral devices (printers, webcams, speakers, etc.) that were not installed, fixed, connected or tested by the technician during the original repair. Replacement may be considered a satisfactory solution in rare circumstances where repairs would be more expensive than replacement. Lastly, this warranty does not apply to Data Recovery Services as it has its own guarantee.

Retail repair shops tend to have high prices for repairs. Say you have a laptop, and your hard drive needs to be replaced.

This would be a very typical bill:

For only about $50 more, I could buy a brand-new laptop!

We don’t have a retail location. This eliminates many costly expenses which our computer store competitors must account for in their pricing (like rent, utilities, cleaning services, maintenance, city permits, décor, etc.).

This allows us to offer much more affordable computer repair prices. For example, here is the bill we recently sent our customer for the same services:

New Hard Drive: $55.99
2 Hours Labor: $250
Technician Notes: Ran diagnostics, installed drive, installed/updated Windows 10, migrated data.

Total: $305.99

Compared to the average $424.99, we’re nearly 30% less expensive. In addition to saving about $120, the repair was done in their own house, and in two hours. Had they brought their computer to a local computer repair shop, it would likely have been a 3-5 day check-in.

Pushy Salespeople

The biggest reason I decided to open my own shop was my moral objection to selling overpriced, unnecessary parts and software.

Every company I’ve worked with tacks on a 200% (or higher!!!) markup for computers, parts & software. We were required to sell “something” (it didn’t matter what) to every customer we worked with. Worse, to boost profits they would often hire salespeople instead of qualified techs, then train them to be “PC technicians”.

If your computer has internet Internet access, rather than drive to your location, a “Geeks On Command!” computer technician can instead establish a connection to repair your computer remotely. Using this connection, your technician can diagnose & repair any troubles you may encounter, including:

Remote Computer Support Prices:

Standard Hourly Remote Support: $75 per hour
(1 hour minimum, billed in quarter-hour increments of $18.75 after the first hour)

3 Hour Block (Save >10%): $199.99 per 3 hours

– A typical “Quick-Fix” Session” can be completed in an hour or less, and costs only $75.00.
– A typical “Full-Service” Session” will take between 2.5 and 4 hours, depending on the current state of the computer.

“Full Service” Computer Support includes:

  • Hardware Diagnostics (to test the integrity of major components like the HDD, CPU and RAM)

  • Internet Speed & Security Assessment

  • Thorough Virus Scan

  • Comprehensive PC Tune-Up

Yes! Our No Fix, No Fee Warranty:

Our service warranty extends 30 days from the original service date.

We’ll provide a FULL REFUND for all services if we are unable to resolve your problem to your satisfaction. If your computer experiences the same symptoms as it did before it was fixed, we’ll repair the problem (through remote service) at no further cost to you.

If we are still unable to provide a satisfactory solution, we will return your money (less any parts purchased). If new parts or software are required to complete your warranty repair, you’ll be billed only for these parts or software, not for any labor it required to be fixed. If we’ve fixed your machine, we want you to be extremely pleased with the performance.

*Disclaimer: Follow-up services provided under warranty will be performed via remote service when applicable. Geeks On Command! is not responsible for malware re-infection. If viruses or other malicious software were removed from your computer, and it was subsequently infected again at any point after this service, it will be considered a new issue. Other unqualifying issues include: liquid damage, power damage, misuse, or any other damage, hardware or software failures that occurred subsequent to any repair. Additionally, we are not responsible to warranty repair any issues that were not brought to the attention of the technician during the original repair. We are also not responsible for any issues caused by unlicensed, pirated or otherwise illegal software. Our warranty does not extend to connectivity issues with peripheral devices (printers, webcams, speakers, etc.) that were not installed, fixed, connected or tested by the technician during the original repair. Replacement may be considered a satisfactory solution in rare circumstances where repairs would be more expensive than replacement. Lastly, this warranty does not apply to Data Recovery Services as it has its own guarantee.

Basically, if a problem is related to the original repair, or if we missed something, we will resolve the problem to your full satisfaction at NO COST. Guaranteed.

How Remote Computer Service Works:

  • First, contact us to schedule your Remote Session.
  • At the scheduled time, your computer technician will call at the phone number you’ve provided.
  • Over the phone, your IT specialist will assist you with the few easy steps necessary to connect with your computer. Once connected, they will discuss your needs, and fix your computer while you watch.
  • Once your PC is fixed to your satisfaction, they will answer any questions you have, calculate the total time spent on your session, and provide an invoice to be payed online by credit or debit card.
