Hackensack – Did You Know?

  • Though largely disputed by those that believe the name Hackensack was derived from a Lenni Lenapi word, an alternative theory as to how Hackensack got its name is that there was a popular tavern/inn called the “Hock & Sack”.
  • Before it was reincorporated as Hackensack in 1921, the area was named “New Barbadoes Township”.
  • Kinderkamack Road, Essex Street, Passaic Street and Paramus Road (as they are now known) actually date back to the time when Hackensack was still called “New Barbadoes Township”.
  • In 1776, during the American Revolutionary War, George Washington himself made his base in Hackensack during his retreat from Fort Lee. He camped on “The Green” across from the First Dutch Reformed Church.
  • Though many houses in Hackensack are recognized as having historic value – many by the 1990 Master Plan – the city surprisingly does not have any mandates requiring their preservation, nor does it identify any districts as “historic”.
  • Astronaut Walter Marty Schirra Jr of Hackensack, NJ was one of the 7 man crew of Project Mercury, the United States’ first attempt to fly humans into space. In doing so, he became the 5th American and 9th human ever to travel into space. During his career, Schirra went to space three times, and is the only astronaut to have flown in the Apollo, Gemini & Mercury missions.
  • Enoch Poor, one of George Washington’s officers is buried in a Hackensack cemetery adjacent to the First Dutch Reformed Church (NJ’s second oldest church, erected in 1696), as is former New York City Mayer and former NY  Attorney General Richard Varick.
  • Hackensack is often referenced in pop culture, including songs from Thelonius Monk, Cole Porter, Jim Croce, Steely Dan, Fountains Of Wayne, Katy Perry, Johnny Cash, Billy Joel, and System Of A Down – as well as in films like Zoolander, Superman, Brewster’s Millions, and Bride Of Chucky.

STEP 1: Call To Book An Appointment

Choose “Remote Computer Support” for fast, affordable (no-contact) computer support over the Internet, or “In-Home Computer Service” for a house call from a PC technician.

STEP 2: Prepare For Your Appointment

To save your technician time (and yourself money), it helps to prepare for your visit by fully charging your devices, keeping a list of any questions & having your passwords handy.

STEP 3: Meet Your Computer Technician

For remote computer support, you’ll get a phone call from your technician. They’ll walk you through a few easy steps to grant them one-time access to your PC for your service.

STEP 4: Work Approval And Payment

Once you’re satisfied that all your needs have been met by the technician, you’ll have the option to make a payment by cash or check (house calls only), credit/debit card, or PayPal.

Our” No Fix – No Fee” Computer Repair Guarantee

  • 30 Day Warranty: If your symptom returns we’ll provide YOUR CHOICE of a full refund, or a follow-up appointment at no additional charge.
  • The Fine Print: We believe in transparency, so you can make an informed decision. 1. Our guarantee and warranty applies to any & all services (except data recovery), but not to purchased 3rd party products like parts or software. 2. Unless you’ve purchased our recommended anti-virus suite we cannot warranty virus/malware cleanup. 3. A replacement device (or alternative software) may be considered a satisfactory solution in rare circumstances where repairs would cost more than a replacement. 4. Lastly, if your computer has been physically damaged (liquid damage, power damage, drops, etc.) since your appointment this may void our warranty.

That’s all. Basically, if there’s a problem related to the original repair, or if we missed something, we’ll make it right by you however we can.

Don’t Trust Your Computer To Big Name Repair Shops

Without Reading This First…

Geek-Squad-Alternatives

Hi, my name is Chris, and I’m the owner of Geeks On Command!. Welcome, and thank you for considering our services.

My team and I have worked with some of the biggest names in computer repair, including:

  • Geek Squad

  • Geeks On Site

  • uBreakiFix

  • HelloTech

  • Microsoft Store

  • Apple Store

  • MicroCenter

  • RescueCom

When we started Geeks On Command!, we wanted to keep the best parts of these companies, while changing the parts that often caused bad customer experiences. For Example:

What You Won’t Find At Geeks On Command…

Are bad customer experiences like these:

Assembly Line Repairs

Everyone uses their computer differently, and for different things. Big name computer repair shops like Geek Squad train their technicians to set up every PC the same way, keeping mostly default settings.

While in their employ, I often knew with certainty that I could save a customer SO much time or frustration by changing a setting here, or adding a plugin there, but we weren’t allowed to make (or even recommend) these changes.

Our technicians are trained and encouraged to make personalized suggestions designed to increase your productivity, or remove common aggravations.

I personally feel great when I can save my customers time, or make their day to day less frustrating. It’s one of the biggest reasons I get so much satisfaction from what I do.

Unqualified Technicians

Most retail computer repair shops don’t pay very well, which is one of the reasons I started this company. I loved what I was doing, but couldn’t survive on the paychecks.

This income deficiency makes it difficult for them to hire/keep qualified technicians, so instead they hire “tech-savvy” college kids with absolutely no computer repair experience. As lead bench technician, I was frequently the one who trained these new hires.

Some got really good, and quickly moved on to better paying IT jobs. Others never really took to it, and many a rookie mistake happened with customer’s computers. This usually resulted in “boomerangs” (computers that were “repaired” being brought back with the same problem).

Other times, the results were really horrible (accidently-deleted pictures, corrupted Excel sheets, records lost from QuickBooks, physical damage to laptops, etc.). I felt so bad when that happened… what a truly miserable, and avoidable experience for those poor customers.

We pay competitively to keep a steady team of fully qualified, experienced, professional computer technicians that get the job done right the first time.

Overpriced Services

Retail repair shops tend to have high prices for repairs. Say you have a laptop, and your hard drive needs to be replaced.

This would be a very typical bill:

Diagnostics: $49
New Hard Drive: $99.99
Hard Drive Installation: $49
OS Installation w/updates: $129
Data Migration: $99
Software Setup: $49

Total: $474.99

For only about $50 more, I could buy a brand-new laptop!

We don’t have a retail location. We come to you – either through computer repair house calls, or remote support. This eliminates many costly expenses which our computer store competitors must account for in their pricing (like rent, utilities, cleaning services, maintenance, city permits, décor, etc.).

This allows us to offer much more affordable computer repair prices. For example, here is the bill we recently sent our customer for the same services:

New Hard Drive: $55.99
2 Hours Labor: $250
Technician Notes: Ran diagnostics, installed drive, installed/updated Windows 10, migrated data. Customer had questions about Windows 10 so I gave a tutorial. Customer is happy with service.

Total: $305.99

Compared to the average $424.99, we’re nearly 30% less expensive. In addition to saving about $120, the repair was done in their own house, and in two hours. Had they brought their computer to a local computer repair shop, it would likely have been a 3-5 day check-in.

3-5 Day Wait

Many shops require customers to check in their computers for repair.

I get it. It’s an easy way to increase profit (by paying one technician to fix multiple computers at once). That said, I certainly wouldn’t want to be without my computer for “3-5 business days”.

I’d be lost without it.

We don’t do check-ins. We fix your computer in your own home or office, and we’ll stay as long as it takes to get the work done.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’ll get your PC running as quickly and efficiently as it ran on the day it was purchased – even if it no longer starts!

About HackensACK, NEW Jersey:

History of Hackensack, NJ

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Computer Repair Hackensack NJ
Hackensack NJ, 1896

Before being settled by the Dutch and English, the land now known as Hackensack was inhabited by the Lenni Lenapi native American tribe. They are thought to have influenced the name “Hackensack”, as they lived near the “Achinigeu-hach” (what is now called the Hackensack River). Today, Chief Oratam of the Achinhenhcky still appears on the Hackensack municipal seal.

Hackensack was first incorporated in 1665, though it was originally called “New Barbadoes Township” until its reincorporation in 1921 as Hackensack. New Barbadoes Township encompassed much of the area, including what is now Paramus, Maywood, River Edge, Rochelle Park, and parts of Oradell. At the time, it was comprised mainly of farms, woods and swamp land.

Today, Hackensack (and its unincorporated communities like Fairmount and North Hackensack) is a bustling city with much to offer, including Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack River County Park, Borg’s Woods Nature Preserve, the Bergen County Court House, The Hackensack Cultural Arts Center, Geeks On Command Computer Repair, The Shops at Riverside (formerly known as Riverside Square Mall), Ice House (the home base for the New Jersey Avalanche and gold medalist skaters Anton Sikharulidze, Sarah Hughes and Elena Bereznaia), the Bergen Museum of Art & Science, Fairleigh Dickinson University, the New Jersey Naval Museum, World War II submarine USS Ling, Bergen County Academy (one of the best ranked high schools in the US (recognized in 2011 as having the second highest average SAT scores of any U.S. high schools), and the First Dutch Reformed Church (“Church on The Green”) – the second oldest church in NJ having been built in 1696.
